Of course it is preferable to avoid conflicts, or to renegotiate. But the way matters are set up, we cannot be forced to honor any provision in any formal way, in any foreign tribunal. We give up nothing, although we create a strong presumption in favor of the commitment. It is up to others to decide how to react, of course, should we renege at any point.
