It's this: we need to think better, and in an instant of evolutionary time,

Good "ramble." We started out with the best guy with a weapon making it to the top, and now it is the best guy at thinking. Oversimplified, but some truth to it, I think.

When we look at the handful of people who invented our modern civilization, they were from Europe, and a very high percentage were Jewish. Why? Europe was the most open to new ideas. Why Jewish? I guess that the oppression of the Jews by the guys with the swords created a situation that allowed the smartest Jews to have the best chance to survive.

If you forget the race chapter in the "Bell Curve," and look at what they say in the rest of it, they show that our system finds the best teenage minds in the country and allows them to go to the top schools. The bright kid on the 19th Century farm is no longer stuck there. Once in the schools, they interact with each other, marry and produce kids. They tend to live in the same communities.

I don't think we are getting smarter by "nature." The brain remains the same. We are getting better at finding and training the best ones.
