This does not even come close to a cure for cancer.
The telo. discovery is significant from a scientific perspective but has no immediate commercial value. You have to remember that the mechanisms by which this enzyme affects cancer and aging are still theoretical. If these mechanisms bear out (after years of research) then the enzyme can be a target for a drug. Such a drug will be developed by any number of major drug comapnies out there. Maybe with or without GERN. Best case scenario for GERN is that they will have an edge targeting this enzyme (providing it really is a major step in regulating tumors or aging) and can have a collaborative agreement with a drug company. By the way the aging angle is real thin. Not that telomerase could not be a component in cell senesence but it is unlikely to be a "master" regulator of aging.
I should say that I got my PhD in molecular biology from Harvard Medical School in '92 and my field of expertise is DNA replication Specifically, studying reverse transcriptase of which telomerase is related. I say this not to brag (because the degree has been a recipe for indentured servitude) but because I am much less knowledgeable about investing than about science and so I am happy tobe able to contribute when I see gross distortions about miracle discoveries either in the press or on SI. Of course, I wish I had the sense,or lack there of, to buy GERN Friday AM and sell in the PM. But I won't be buying Monday.

PS. All of the managers of biotech mutual funds are completely aware of all of these limitations of this discovery.
