Re: When we replaced our old furnace we installed a natural gas furnace.

Have you traced the supply chain back to the gas wells?

I was pretty impressed by how rapidly the recently touted "Ladyfern" district in Canada is depleting. The WCSB (Western Canada Sedimentary Basin) wells are depleting at a slower rate, but they are definitely on the wane, and up in the Ft. McMurray area in Alberta where oil sands are being developed, the Provincial authorities have shut in the natural gas wells so as to preserve that resouce which is necessary to create the steam that make the bitumen extraction possible. Other than those former abundant Canadian supplies, I don't know where the Pacific Northwest is getting gas. Pacific Gas & Electric, the San Francisco based utility has a huge pipeline running from Calgary to the Bay Area, but I'm sure their supply is getting cut as well.

If you inquire with your local utility about where they get their gas and how firm their contracts are, perhaps you could share the information with the thread.

I've seen enough dire predictions in the literature to believe that we could really be in trouble soon.
