I’m 42, so I have a few years ahead of me before retirement. I live in Miami Beach, but I don’t yet socialize with the retired crowd :-)

I realize this area is somewhat of an aberration, because a lot of retired wealth congregates here – both domestic and foreign. With the drop in the dollar, many foreigners actually think that South Florida real estate is on sale, thus providing another level of support for the bubble.

I moved here from the Boston area about four years ago, and one would have thought that Boston real estate might suffer due to the heavy concentration of tech related businesses … but, once again, no one seems to be hurting, and real estate prices just keep spiraling up, totally unabated by this so-called recession.

Another thing that I find perplexing is inflation … or shall I say the reported lack of it. I support my mother, so I’m intimately familiar with SS, Medicare and health care costs. Every time I review her budget, I see incredible inflation. All costs are up e.g. drugs, healthcare, car insurance, house insurance, car fuel, electric bill, heating bill (natural gas), phone bill, cable TV, groceries … and the list goes on. It’s too bad she can’t live on computer monitors and electronic gadgets, because those are the only prices I see dropping!
