Excellent column by Brooks. I caught him on PBS discussing the new Political ads. He thinks the parties may just be "bouncing the rubble." But I think it is a good opportunity for Bush to work on Kerry's image. Kerry is an unknown to the general public, and the "firstist with the mostest" can make a big difference. Bush is hitting the swing states with four times as many spots as Kerry. And Kerry's are defensive.

Brooks pointed out that at this time four years ago Bush was back on the ranch releasing position papers laying out his "compassionate conservatism," and making himself known to the public. Kerry is wandering about in a fog with no plans, or brain trust, badmouthing the Administration. We have heard that Kerry is terrible at organization, and we are beginning to see it.
