I assume that you know, I've never been a supporter of Saddam. I opposed the Iraqi war because IMO the reasons for going to war had nothing to do w/ Saddam, and all to do with establishing bases to replace the no longer tenable ones in Saudi Arabia. As I stated at the time, the war would leave our soldiers as targets w/ bull's eyes painted on their backs, so that Washington chickenhawks could pursue a hegemon dream as part of the Military-Petroleum complex. For me, this sacrifice of our youth was unacceptable. As for getting rid of Saddam, I've already outlined a "go-slow" approach that would have achieved that result, and with (IMO) a far better chance of producing a peaceful Iraq. But my approach was unacceptable to the powers-that-be, because it wouldn't have left the US totally in control.
