I've been to Alaska, I've seen what oil development does.
It's not pretty.
Bush is also allowing huge parcel of the ancient Tongass Wilderness "harvested" by timber companies. These ancient forests don't grow back. This is all just typical plunder now, worry about effects later mentality. And the Alaskan senators and congressmen are very corrupt. It's the wil-wild free for all to make bucks fast while Bush-Cheneya re in power.
