People who favored the socialists for their opposition to action in Iraq could shift either way once faced with the reality of an al Qaeda attack. The immediate reaction, the only one relevant in terms of the election, would likely be to want out of Iraq even more strongly, it seems to me, but the more considered reaction might be different.
