I agree steel is doing better than it was in 2002 at the bottom when the tarriffs were in place. But has Dubyanomics dumbed down your sense of what a boom is, such that you think any company able to waffle along without declaring BK means that industry is in a "boom"?

Ohio has the highest unemployment in the nation. A Steel boom should make Ohio a robust jobs creation center, is that what you're predicting? I doubt it. I just did a simple google on steel and cancelled out the small job growth at the other ohio plant.

Bottom line- globalization is a race to the bottom and if we decline 50% AND we have an industry where worldwide supply is completely locked up (rare), we can compete for a year or so. Then, once the demand/supply equilibrium is worked out in a year or so we go down again.

Reorganization effort is model of Precision
Digesting a merger that closed last December, Portland-based Precision Castparts Corp. is completing a reorganization that will result in the loss of 435 jobs.

Those cuts will bring the total number of job losses throughout the corporation to approximately 1,400 since the $2 billion, multinational company began slashing employment in 2002.
