...the crooked E's as we call them all got their start for their crookery during the transition.

Chinu, I would suggest that you pick up and read a copy of "Smartest Guys in the Room: The Amazing Rise and Scandalous Fall of Enron."

The Special Purpose Entites that constituted the core of the Enron fraud were set up during the 90's.

They got caught not because of what Bush did but because of what the employees did when they discovered they lost all their retirement and life long earnings.

The collateral for the entities consisted primarily of Enron stock. When Enron's stock started to tank during the spring and early summer of 2001, the SPE's started to unravel. They got caught because the pyramid started to tumble, not because the employees finally discovered that they were working for a company that had been shored up by creative and fraudulent accounting.

...while Ken Lay still remains scott free.

Under Ms. Caldwell, the task force brought charges against 29 defendants, including 20 former Enron executives. Nine defendants have pleaded guilty or been convicted by a jury, including Andrew S. Fastow, the former chief financial officer; Ben F. Glisan Jr., the former treasurer; and David Delainey, the former chief executive of two Enron divisions.

Ken Lay is the only one left standing and that will change. With the assistance of Fastow, the feds probably have a decent shot at Lay. Skilling's assistance would help but I do not expect him to cooperate until it is time for his sentencing hearing.

Why is a successful business woman already indicted. She did not take anybody's retirement?

Her arrogant and illegal behavior has destroyed hundreds of millions of dollars of value both at her own company and at Kmart. Are you suggesting that we have a double standard for "successful" executives?

The speed with which Martha was dealt with had more to do with the fact that the charges against her were relatively simple. The Enron fraud was very complex. Martha could have settled this early and got a slap on the wrist. She thought that her celebrity status would get her off.

Now, Kozlowski did not throw that lavish party for his wife during the Clinton years. He did so during the Bush years in 2001.

Did Bush attend the party? No. While certainly entertaining as an example of Kozlowski's bad behavior, that $2 million party was a relatively minor part of the case that has been brought against Kozlowski.

Parties like that were a weekly event during the Internet bubble. Did Clinton attend any of them? Doubtful?
