The way the debate has been framed on SI over the Enron fraud and other corporate frauds that have come to light over the last few years has been disingenuous. No one on these boards, whether a Republican or a Democrat, favors fraudulent activity on the part of corporate entities. It would be more accurate to discuss the issue of which of the candidates are better equipped to deal with the issue of corporate fraud. That has normally been a winning issue for the Democrats. That was not the case in 2002. There was an accurate perception on the part of the American people that Bush was not responsible for what happened at entities like Enron and WorldCom. After a slow start, there also appears to be a perception that the Bush people have gotten their arms around the problem. Another thing to consider. Most of the frauds that have been disclosed in the last few years had their origins in the 90's. We will probably not learn about most of the corporate frauds that have occurred during the first three years of Bush presidency until midway through his second term.
