NT is "open". All of the UNIX vendors dumped it. It even used to run on PowerPC-based machines that ran MacOS! Open does not mean hardware independant. It means that the software and hardware is available from multiple vendors. It means interoperability and no lock-down to a single vendor. By definition, NT is proprietary, not open. -Dan
