Sun set to grab more share of server mart
Sun Microsystems Malaysia is set to grab a significant portion of the low-end to mid-range server markets, despite troubles facing its global business.

Its managing director Cheam Tat Inn said the company hoped to double its share in these markets, currently dominated by Microsoft’s Windows NT server platforms, within the next two to three years.

This confidence stems from Sun’s alliance last November with processor manufacturer AMD Corp, which combines the latter’s 64-bit computing Opteron processors with Sun’s server offerings.

“With this alliance, we are now able to reach a space which we couldn’t before,” Cheam said during the launch of Sun’s new V20z server that features AMD’s 64-bit processors....
