The stated goal in their jihad proclamation is to kill all Jews, kill all Christians and kill all Americans. I believe all of these attacks are viewed by aq as a step towards accomplishing that goal.

That is why I question if the Madrid attacks were really AQ, or really just AQ alone. Because they attacked 3 days before the election. Coincidence, or did someone with enough knowledge of the Spanish electorate plan the attack? OBL sure doesn't know the Spanish or anything about elections; he's still mad about the Reconquista.
