I have our family tree traced back to the American Revolutionary War. My ancestors on my Fathers side were German and one was a Hessian soldier captured by Washington at the battle of Trent. After the war he was freed and given a land grant in Westmoreland county (pa) (indian country in those days). Not many women on the frontier then and many died young. Often ancestors of mine married several times in their lives, sometimes to cousins, sometimes to Indians. Its a really convuluted tree but very interesting. One of my ancestors had his leg blown off at the battle of Gettysburg during our Civil war, we still have his rifle and the spruce tree limb he used to hobble off the field in our family. jdn
