Safire willingly distorts what was apparent..that Kerry was referring to Bush's campaign strategists...into an attack on all republicans. (I don't think that Kerry meant to include John McCain, for instance) Bill's rhetoric has become SO transparent that maybe he should quit. Safire could have retired long ago to go and fill volumes with petulant explanations of the differences between a non-sequitur and an oxymoron...if this were to happen it would leave the Times quite free of his conservative bias at last.
