I've seen elections in my area swing by 10% in a matter of weeks, both Mario Cuomo of New York and Jim Florio of New Jersey were ahead by at least 5% going into their reelection campaigns in the early 1990s, only to lose by a few percentage points on election day. Similiar to Spain, and yet no terrorism to affect the outcome. It was just a matter of swing voters deciding it was time for a change. Perhaps the terrorism thing had a slight effect on the elections in Spain, but in many cases, terrorism helps the incumbents as people look for stability and security in uncertain times and resist change, so I'm not sure how the terrorists threw the elections towards the Socialists in Spain?!? Perhaps it was just time for a change. It does happen from time to time you know.
