Lizzie: The U.S. is "an industrialized nation with no healthcare and poor public schools."

Message 19919005

Which must explain why:

-- more people around the world try to attend universities in the U.S. than any other country. Many of these schools, including the college the author of that post attended and every school from kindergarten through law school that I attended, are public schools (poor public schools indeed)

-- Life expectancy in the U.S. has increased from less than five decades from birth in 1900 to nearly eight decades from birth in 2000 (yup, definitely no health care here)

-- People from around the world come here to the U.S. to get health care, especially those in systems with socialized medicine where care is rationed (a significant number of patients from Canada and the U.K. come here to receive superior, more customer-focused medical care)

-- The U.S. economy has grown at a faster pace than that of any other industrialized nation over the past 20 years, far faster than Japan or Western Europe.

It just boggles the mind how we have managed all of this with no health care and poor public schools. I mean, just look at the consequences: Our economy grows faster, we live longer, even our public schools attract students from the world over.

Imagine what it would be like if we actually had health care and education???!
