I think they are both (mostly) willing to sacrifice their lives- it's just that fighter pilots hope they won't have to. My dad flew in a bomber in WWII, and let me tell you, he knew he could easily forfeit his life, and he did it willingly (though he was not happy about what he had to do in the mopping up operation in Japan- but that's another story.)

Suicide bombers are many horrible things, but they are clearly not cowards- however, neither are most of our men and women in service.
