JF, That Bush policy is leading toward resumption of the draft, something you have said you are firmly against.

I am firmly against the draft during times of relative peace. Yeah yeah, we've got the war on terrorism, but this isn't a war that requires the manpower that only a draft can provide.

Instating the draft just to force people to "share the burden" is one of the most revolting ideas I have ever seen. While we're at it, why not force some people to become police officers or firefighters? How about forcing some to be city garbage collectors, or day care workers? After all, we all need to share in the burden of keeping America beautiful, or taking care of our children, don't we?

We'll soon have the workings of a communism. Call me a McCarthyist, I don't care.
