Lizzie, Comparing those cities to an American city is like comparing an inner city school with a suburban school. It is not a valid comparison. The major cities of the US are not homogeneous populations and are the home to an economic underclass that does not exist in those countries. The question you have to ask is would economic policies in these countries work here? Low growth socialism will simply not work here. It does not provide the opportunity for individuals to climb the ladder. This country needs a high growth economy to provide opportunity to those at the bottom of the ladder and it must also deal with a wide open border that neither party cares a lick about closing.

Border security is just one example of a subject we need an open legitimate debate that yields a policy that will work. For now - it is a political weapon for both sides at the price of our domestic tranquility.
