That is a mixed message. In order to pursue policies conductive to unity, you are saying our president should have taken a poll in Spain, and conducted our foreign policy accordingly. Which is ludicrous. Perhaps, if we had done that in 1941, France would be speaking German today. Allies should help out allies, whatever the circumstances, especially where treaties are involved. In the case of France, where members of Chiracs gov. took bribes from Saddam, to expect the US to change its policies would also be ridiculous. WWII was hardly a joy ride for us either, but we didn't shrink from our duty, because of the inconvenience, and neither should they.

Look, quit beating this silly bush (no pun intended). International policy is hard stuff...not the domain of simple policies based on your way or the highway. If you don't understand that simple concept you also don't understand that the inherent will power of human nature is more lasting of that represented by military force alone.
