Great piece, wasn't it?

Cartoonish, I'd call it.

But then, when I think of nuns, I don't think of broad-shouldered dykes wielding rulers, I think of gentle women teaching inner city kids to read with no more pay than a roof over their heads, the food on their table, and the modest clothes on their backs.

When I think of priests, I don't think of pedophiles nor golf-playing jokers, I think of gentle men giving comfort and medicine to the sick and dying.

I think of the Irish monks who saved Western civilization.

I think of Jesuit astronomers and mathematicians like Christopher Clavius, Francesco Grimaldi, Athanasius Kircher and Matteo Ricci.

Is Bill Gates really a better person than someone who teaches an illiterate person to read? How can you compare them? Isn't it apples and oranges?

Is the human spirit really so circumscribed that we cannot express both selfishness and selflessness?
