The record does not agree with your assessment. As a Major with the Americal Division in Viet Nam, Powell showed a great talent for covering up the atrocities that occurred at My Lai and other villages and was threatening to expose Americal as a brutal aggressor unit engaged in war crimes.

It was Powell's ability and eagerness to lie about the atrocities that helped him start his advance through the ranks of the general staff.

You've been the victim (as have most Amercicans) of a stage-managed presentation of what this man is really all about. There's a huge gulf between the reality and the image of Colin Powell.
