China Emerges as No.1 Source of Korea's Farm Imports
China has emerged as the top exporter of agricultural and fisheries products to South Korea thanks to their price competitiveness. That position was previously held by the United States.
The Agricultural and Fishery Marketing Corporation said Chinese farm imports topped more than US$3 billion last year, accounting for a near quarter of Korea's US$12.5 billion dollar total. U.S. imports which had been the prime source of Korea's farm products until 2002 fell behind, amounting to US$2.9 billion in 2003. Other top exporters included Australia which sold US$805 million worth of farm goods last year along with New Zealand and Brazil.
