Thread, 21st Century Cars Hit the Road From on-board radar and Wi-Fi to electronic steering, amazing technologies already here or soon coming promise to create a new automotive era businessweek.com
Safety systems will move from passive protection, such as airbags, to active systems that use radar and cameras to watch for danger. ...."Within the next five years, the car will use algorithms to anticipate hazards and intervene or warn the driver." ------
Am thinking of having a computer system specially built for my car. A couple of other friends are thinking of installing an advanced computer system too for their cars.
On another note, I hear from an auto research scientist, the auto industry is *finally* funding major RND efforts into safety. There is so much they could do to improve safety and save lives using hightech software, cameras and sensors, and at such a low-cost too, that it boggles the mind it's not out there already as a higher margin product-line. It's still stuck in the laboratories. An auto executive should kick this stuff out of the lab and onto the streets, once and for all, before Toyota does. Some people don't have the guts to make the first industry move.
