Yesterday, I read a report that Shell is going to shut down a refinery in Bakersfield, CA that produces 6% of that state's diesel fuel. With diesel already at historically high prices, this is going to just send them higher. The result, according to the Wall Street Journal, could be an uncomfortable situation with crops rotting in fields, truckers sitting at home and thread-bare and expensive produce shelves awaiting consumers.
