Well, I didn't know THEN, and I still do not know NOW whether your "category" is species...or...awareness. Because, you see...your sentence MIXED THE TWO CONCEPTS TOGETHER, and made it meaningless to me. Indeed, the "category" appears to be neither sentience nor species, but some rubric under which they both fall.

" I would consider all members of the human species (and probably other sentient sapient species) to be in the same general category. If forced to, I might make distinctions within that category"

If consciousness was the category, then why would you value a zygote? If human species was the category, then why would you value an intelligent alien? But your sentence structure led me to believe that these two attributes were simply components of a larger category.

So I remain as estranged from your meaning as when we began.

Obviously, I am failing to communicate my question clearly to you in spite of your very best efforts to respond to me. So I am very sorry to have bothered you. I accept the responsibility for my failure to learn anything from this exchange. Mea culpa.
