FWIW jpg. I did the Atkins 4 years ago with my neighbor who is an internist.

We both lost 25 plus pounds the first six months. That was great. I stayed on the diet pretty well for the next two years. Didn't loose any more - didn't gain anything (missed those carbs though). Added benefit was that I could eat the hottest stuff in the hacienda or rib shack, and wouldn't have heartburn. That was great. Still missed things like rice, potatoes (once in a while), and those nasty sweets.

Then I started noticing my body complaining about things I couldn't quite put my finger on - little quirks mind you. Still can't put my finger on it, but they seem to have gone away.

That internist who I told you about is also my personal doc. About a year ago, he asked me how I was doing on the diet. I told him I was pretty much off it and we got into a conversation of the similarities of some of those little quirks.

Turns out, he was going through some of the same stuff. He's been off the diet as long as I have and neither one of us is worse because of it.

Bottom line, JMHO, of course. The diet works as advertised initially, but some people's bodies miss some of the benefits that carbs bring.

Good luck on the diet, and stay healthy!
