How close do you think the UN was to giving the go-ahead to US forces?

When you read #13 (In UN Resolution 1441) what is your understanding given France's reluctance to even consider force. Seems like sabotage to me. But for $100 billion it is fairly understandable.

To me that is the lie. WMD's or not, Iraq defied the UN as they had in Kuwait. Even if they had destroyed the WMD's there was no assurance and indeed, their actions always led to suspicions that they had not. Sure, Saddam's bizarre actions defy reason but not in the Arab world where saving face and appearing to still be the strong man was paramount. Should the UN and the world be held hostage to the customs of the Arab world?
