Ted, Re: <This poll makes sense. I have never understood the chorus of complaints coming out of Iraq.>
I'm frankly amazed at some of the answers.
Like Q2: Compared to a year ago, I mean before the war in Spring 2003, are things overall in your life much better now, somewhat better, about the same, somewhat worse or much worse?
57% better, 18% worse. To me, 1 year is not a lot of time to have such a large swing.
Q3 - What is your expectation for how things overall in your life will be in a year from now? Will they be much better, somewhat better, about the same, somewhat worse or much worse?
A *STUNNING*, to me 71% favorable vs 7% unfavorable.
Then, Q11 - Which countries/organisations should play a role in the rebuilding of Iraq? You may mention up to three countries/organisations in order of importance
Japan? -- 35.9%? Japan? Wow! It is nice, however, to see the EU garnering 2% support.
And then,
Q23 - Now I would like you to look at this card. I am going to read out some different forms of political action that people can take, and I would like you to tell me, for each one, whether you have actually done any of these things, whether you might do it or would never, under any circumstances, do it.
Have Might Would No done do never do Response Talking with other people about politics 46.0 15.0 35.6 3.4 Voting at elections 17.5 61.8 18.4 2.3 Joining a political party or action group 4.8 13.4 75.3 6.5 Taking action such as demonstrating 5.1 19.3 70.3 5.2 Using violence or force if it becomes necessary .5 11.9 82.1 5.6
Good Grief! 17% have voted in Elections, 61% Might and 18% never would? Yet they claim to want a democracy with a 'Strong Leader'? 35% would never talk with other people about Politics?
These folks need some Civics lessons.
