Precise Biometrics provides fingerprint technology for VingCard Marine's new Gangway Control System
17/03/2004

Precise Biometrics AB has delivered fingerprint technology to VingCard Marine, the worldwide leading supplier of card operated locks for the marine industry, for a new fingerprint based crew and passenger access control system to be marketed and sold by VingCard Marine.

The new system is a result of a cooperation between Precise Biometrics and VingCard Marine, the marine division of ASSA ABLOY Hospitality a.s, an ASSA ABLOY Group company. Under the terms of the cooperation, VingCard Marine has integrated Precise Biometrics' fingerprint functionality, Precise BioMatch(TM), into their Gangway Control System. In addition to the development tools already provided, Precise Biometrics will be licensing the company's software as well as provide fingerprint readers, consulting services, maintenance and training.

With VingCard Marine's new fingerprint based access control system, crew and passengers on cruise liners and ferries will board by placing their finger on a fingerprint reader as verification of the card holder's identity. Thanks to the fingerprint based check-in provided by Precise Biometrics and the ability of the system to work directly with VingCard's key system or the ship's hotel system database, the system will be able to give information about who is on the ship and who has disembarked, instead of a static passenger list. This is of importance not least due to the new rules and regulations regarding preventive measures against security threats, i.e. the ISPS Code (International Ship and Port Facility Security Code), which will be applicable from July 1, 2004. Integrating biometrics, such as fingerprint technology, into passenger control systems will enable VingCard Marine to retain its position in the forefront of security at sea.

"In developing our Gangway Control System we found that Precise Biometrics had the perfect solution for us. The cooperation in developing the final product has been on time and within the budget set for this project," said Preben F. Poulsen, Vice President of VingCard Marine.

"We are pleased to announce the business cooperation with VingCard Marine, the market leader in its field with a majority of the world's cruise and ferry operators among their customers. This strengthens our position as a biometric supplier to the travel and transportation industry, which is one of our prioritized market segments," said Christer Bergman, CEO of Precise Biometrics.

The new fingerprint based crew and passenger access control system will be marketed, sold and distributed to the marine industry by VingCard Marine's existing sales channels on a worldwide basis. The solution will be demonstrated for the first time by VingCard Marine on March 16-18 at the world's largest annual gathering of cruise line owners, operators and suppliers, at the Seatrade Cruise Shipping Convention in Miami, Florida, USA.
