I still don't see how the Spaniards can be said to be appeasers since the Socialists consistently said that they'd withdraw Spanish troops from Iraq if elected. There was no change in the Socialist policy as a result of the bombing.

Over ninety percent of the Spanish people were against the war in Iraq.

And it is this point that makes the whole thing so crazy. From what I can tell, a large number of voters which otherwise may have voted for the PP voted for the Socialists not because of 'appeasement' but because they were genuinely angry about the way Aznar handled his government's reaction to it, i.e., by blaming ETA, which was really stupid for any number of reasons.

The truth unfortunately gets buried in the mirage of perception, perception often becomes 'truth'....I'm afraid that this is what is happening now on the Spanish front.

I would only say that the Spanish are appeasers if they fail to vigorously prosecute the investigation. I don't see any signs of that taking place.
