Bush all but said we were in serious danger of attack.

Bush "all but said", what do you claim he acutally said? Certainly it wasn't that our cities would be attacked at all, or that the attack on the cities (or any attack) would occur within months or that it would blow up the cities.

The claim that anything that Bush said even vaguely resembled the claim that Iraqi weapons would blow up our cities within months is nonsense. If I said "terrorists could eventually use weapons of mass destruction against Americans or out interests or allies" would you later claim that I said that Al Qaida will nuke Manhattan within months? If I protested that I didn't say anything of the sort would you complain that I was nitpicking? If someone makes an outright false statement and totally distorts what someone else says then calling them on it is no nitpicking.
