Just heard Eric Alterman (of The Nation) and Mark Green on Charlie Rose, plugging their new election-year book How Bush (Mis)Leads America.
Boy, did these guys sound fired up to fight the 1992 campaign again. What, asked Charlie, did they think the GOP was going to run on? "Gays, Guns and God" came the answer.
'Scuse me? Isn't something rather big missing from that list?
Charlie gamely tried again, "What issues are you going to run on, foreign or domestic?" "Jobs, Lies, the Economy, the Environment" came the answer.
They sounded perfectly serious. The Left (for both these guys definitely represent left-wing Democrats) does not intend to have a foreign policy as far as I can see.
Amusing quote: Alterman asserted that the Right controls the media through Fox and the Wall Street Journal. He was not kidding.
As we all know, Fox and the WSJ are the only two media outlets of any consequence. -g-
Alterman tried to blame Gore's loss in 2000 on the media, and Charlie got so mad he interrupted him, and said it wasn't the media's fault, it was Gore's fault, and stop trying to put it on the media. And if Gore was too ineffectual to counter GOP ads, that was Gore's fault too. |
