HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. -(Dow Jones)- Automatic Data Processing Inc. (NYSE:ADP)'s dealer services group purchased Electronic Data Systems Corp. (NYSE:EDS)automotive retail group. Terms weren't disclosed.

Electronic Data's automotive retail group was formed shortly after General Motors Corp. (NYSE:GM - News) acquired Electronic Data in 1984 and was focused exclusively on GM dealers until 1996, Automatic Data said in a press release Thursday. Electronic Data's split from GM at that time allowed it to pursue business with non-GM dealers.

Electronic Data began working with Saturn in 1988 to develop a retail application and has since been Saturn's primary dealer management systems provider. Saturn renewed its contract with the automotive retail group in 2002.

Automatic Data's dealer services provide computing systems to more than 16,000 automotive and truck dealers throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe.
