Your view is that those displaced are somehow mediocre,
and cannot compete. I can tell you that I know that is
just not right.

You are in a highly protected industry, so you do not know what has gone on to change things since 2000 here.

You are also very lucky, in that you entered your industry when you did.

I can tell you that when cuts are made, they are not made on the people that are mediocre. Often, the people with the highest skills (and highest pay) are cut first. Logic has little to do with it.

It is about making quarterly numbers, and reducing costs.

Are you against subsidies for agriculture? Are you against public funding of state universities? Are you against taxpayer funded scholarships? What about free public education?

These are all interventions in the "free market". A totally free market would not fund public libraries, education, or universities.
