I think that's too big a jump, Gina. If one thought the adventurism in Iraq a misstep in the war on terror, one could reasonably consider it a fiasco now. As you said, one can support the war on terror without supporting invading Iraq. While there have been some favorable events that might be attributable to Iraq, there have also been some unfavorable ones. Zapatero and others can judge the results thus far largely unfavorable while still supporting the war on terror.

Bush has taken the approach that people and countries are either with us all the way or they are enemies. That means that not only are the Islamacists and the collaborators and the pacifists and the appeasers our enemy, the anti-terrorists who simply disagree on the strategy of invading Iraq are also our enemy. That was a mistake then and it's creating problems now. Bush could mitigate some of AQ's latest victory if he could just frame Spain differently, if he were in a position to assert that it doesn't matter whether Spain has troops in Iraq or not, that countries that aren't in Iraq still partners in the war on terror so AQ didn't win anything in Spain. But, of course, he can't do that.
