I think most of the reason the Spanish voted the way they did had to do with the view in the last few days that their
govt. was lying to them (sounds familiar, doesn't it...)

And - that 90% were against the ruling party's support for going into Iraq.

I would think that a bombing here right before the elections might have the opposite effect here in the US - boosting Bush.

They hate Bush - but then again they are not alone in that regard in the world :-)

But, what if they determine that the US is hurt most by Bush continuing to be President for four more years. Since he has alienated most of the world in the current 3 1/2, they would likely expect him to do more of the same in the next four - further isolating the US.

So - what if they plan to bomb us a week or less before we vote? Would that sweep Bush back into office? Might they be happy with that outcome...I don't know.

If you believe Bush has done much to damage the reputation of the US in his first-term, as I do - and that we are more isolated than ever - then might they not want to even further isolate us from traditional allies like Britain, Italy, and Austrailia??

I think it is good to be hedged from now until the election. Still have my USPIX.

Looking forward, do you think that since the terrs most likely feel emboldened by the results in the Spanish election they will look to do the same here as we close in on the November election?
In other words, if the sh*t hits the fan here in the states, what can we expect in the markets, and how should we be positioned?
