Iraq is a negative in the sense that al-Qaeda can use it as a very effective recruiting tool.

No more so than Afghanistan....

Of course, Iraq is a negative in other ways too -- the cost in terms of money and human lives,

Tragic but minimal in light of eventual improved regional security and stability....

the loss of focus in dealing with terrorism,

This is pinhead fantasy.....Iraq is part and parcel of a worldwide assault on terror and the regimes which aid terrorists....

the loss of allies (Spain is out, and Poland is now shifting a bit),

We don't need spineless "allies".

and the loss of respect in the international community.

No loss of respect from any part of the community which matters.... the majority is not always right....
