I, too, have worked in and around high tech since 1982.

Also not to be minimized is the constant turmoil and fallout of mergers & acquisitions, when even top executives get the boot. Some with terrific golden parachutes; many without.

Lack of unionization is a major problem and always has been in tech, IMO. "Worker's rights" are a thing of the distant past.
