Tone is especially important with Bush. It's his tone/'tude that is so offputting to so many folks, like the Europeans. Like moi. I thought he sounded today like he wanted to let bygones be bygones and to work collaboratively, one and all, shoulder to shoulder, to beat the bad guys. And I got that more from his demeanor than from his words. To me he came across chastened, yet undeterred. He was still talking about a stark contrast between good and evil, but he didn't come across like a backwoods moralist or a simpleton or a cowboy. I thought it was perfect.

I can't believe I'm complementing the guy so effusively. Perhaps it's because I expect so little. <g>
