I sent my inquiry to IR today. If the response is that the current agreements don't provide for revenue related to off-Guide advertising, we won't have to wonder about interpretation of those loopholes or current management's vision. :(

Could you elaborate some on your inquiry? I didn't quite get it the first time around, per usual for me :) ... and I'm also at a loss for the rationale behind speculation that Gemstar might be entitled to any monies from off-guide advertising.

...but when it eventually becomes common knowledge that each and every item that appears on a television episode is essentially an advertisement that says "Click on me and I'm yours," THAT's advertising..

From what I've gathered, many/some (actual numbers unavailable) viewers found this particular methodology degrading to the content and/or the viewing experience. Some of this probably comes back to the 'lean-back' versus 'lean-forward' viewing preferences, but more importantly, to the perceived artistic quality of the programming itself.

FWIW, Gemstar has some ownership in ICTV which has IP in similar and other interactive areas: ictv.com
