Bush's team is very, very good. He's got a lot of old-timers to call on, and they come a-running when he needs them.

We really saw that in Florida in 2000. Gore was just out-lawyered.

The turning point in that campaign, in my opinion, was when the Miami-Date ballot counters tried to hole up inside their office to get away from the watchers, in violation of the Florida sunshine laws, and were confronted by hordes of angry Republicans banging on the glass front of the office, demanding to be let in. Some of those boys banging on the glass looked like the last time they got so excited about anything was over dinner and a fine cigar. "Passionate Republican" is pretty close to a oxymoron.

You can't buy that kind of support, you can only deserve it.
