I am saying that the P1000 uses a better head than the P5000. You see, the P5000 uses "gangs" of heads to increase speed while the P1000 uses only 1 head and is not aimed at the hi volume markets.

I do not know the price of the Mimaki head, nor do I know who makes it. I am no expert here but I do not see why they wouldn't have been used in the P5000 if they had been priced even close to the Nukote head. There may be several reasons as to why RGFX chose the Nukote head though. The NuKote head may be better suited for high speeds or the Mimaki head may have been released too late for use in the P5000. The Mimaki head may not be for sale - they could be working on a P5000 competitor. The 2,000 MTBF is the only major downside to the P5000 and if the the Mimaki head can be substituted for the Nukote head and yield the same performance performance for even close to the same price, then I do not see why RGFX will not adopt this head.

Here's the number listed in the ad for the ICS/Mimaki dealer : 800-886-7964. Ask for info on the JV-1300 printer (P1000 in different clothing).
