I think a good first step that we can agree on is to get
Bush out of office, and give Kerry a chance.

If he has any creative ideas to deal with these, and other issues that help the average American, I am willing to listen to them.

My minor was economics. 15 years ago, I would have been voting for Bush (I did vote for Daddy Bush, the first time in 88..) I also had long discussions with my misguided democratic and liberal friends at the time, on the virtues of a free market, limited government, etc., etc.

Times change, and so do views.

I now believe in a much more practical view. Few things are off the table. There is a wide spectrum of capitalist society - maybe from current day China on the left (India too?) to 19th century America and robber barons and trusts.

We are somewhere in the middle, as is Canada, Japan, and Europe. I have no problem changing any rules as necessary over time. We change our own Constitution via Amendments. At one time slavery was the law of the land.

I think we can make some tweaks to the system as needed. We will have to make a lot this century. These trade issues will likely seem small compared to what is coming.

Did you see the demographic changes reported on this week?

By 2050 - only approx. 50% of the US will be Euro, down from 90% in 1950. Now THAT'S a major change - probably for the better for all of us.

Take care, and sorry if I misunderstood your position. You were correct in your stating of what I thought. As I said, that is a very raw wound, still fairly fresh.
