I expect my last name is a bit more Irish than I am. I'm probably more English, with French and German thrown in for good measure. Considering that background, I could have my own European war all by myself. But then again, St Patrick was a Briton and he's considered Irish, so maybe I am too. Does having some red highlights in my hair count? It's all very confusing.
I can only take Irish tenor music in small doses, as it's a bit saccharine for my taste. But I do like some of Enya's music, it has an other-worldly quality that appeals to me. Is that Irish? Maybe it's Californian, we can be kind of other-worldly out here.
I wonder if Bill Murphy is related to Patty Murphy? She went to school with me in Occupied Northern Virginia. She was a babe, and had beautiful light red hair. Definitely some Irish there. And she was very smart, too. If I recall correctly, her dad was one of President Kennedy's drivers- he was an Air Force Captain or something like that. A lot of us were Service Brats.
I wonder where all those people I went to school with ended up? I heard from one of my classmates a couple of years ago, we went to grade school in Virginia, but both moved away before high school. Funny, but we both have the impression that we very lucky to have grown up where we did, it was a charmed life. Maybe everybody feels that way.
High school, for me that was a different story. Like X, I went to a large southern California high school, and I don't look back on it fondly. Too bad I couldn't have simply gone to work instead of wasting time there. |
