And at least there's no doubt as to how the Athenians could have been stupid enough to send their entire military off to conquer Syracuse, only to recall their best military leader before the attack began. Sheesh... talk about being condemned to repeat history.

Please chirp the right interpretation of your statement. Are you saying that the Spanish soldiers are the best part of the US army...?

I am going to have to rethink my views on this democracy thing.

Look, Iraq didn't attack any democratic nation, the decision to wage the Iraq war wasn't democratic as far as the international community is concerned, so the whole affair, whether success or failure, has nothing to do with democracy :)

But Iran should have tested their nukes and filled the Iraq Gap in no more than 2 years.

Nukes are a bad business. Look at Pakistan - all they got from Libya for a wide range of nuclear technology was a paltry $100 million.

That's 1% of what Saddam pocketed #reply-19933518
It's much more profitable to participate in the oil game. A considerable time ago Carl has explained why nukes are mainly useful as a defensive tool (early on Sunday morning I am too lazy to look up the post). Nukes aren't efficient for "surgical strikes."

All the USA needs to do now is to confront its fear of losing control of Iraq to the Muslim "freaks" and realize that it's unfounded. Let the Iraqis write their own constitution. Let them have their elections until the end of 2004. If the Shiites win - so what? If the Iraqi people "wants" to have a civil war - let them have it. It's part of that democracy thing to accept uncertainty. The "erraticity" is not a bug but the main feature.
