Imagine you and I are in a physical struggle during which I draw several guns against you and begin to fire. I miss with each gun, but the effectiveness of my weapons is still quite obvious. You and many of your friends, in return, draw more modern, more effective weapons against me, commanding me to agree to hand over my guns “or else.” I agree to hand over the guns, but refuse to do it. Some sodomite friends of yours also command that I give up the weapons. I refuse and so the sodomites suggest that simply shunning me will force me to give up the guns. In the meantime, I threaten to murder your father and you know that, given the chance, I would murder you and everyone near you. You continually receive hints that I still have my weapons and that I am even building or have plans to build more of the same. Then suddenly someone who looks like and thinks like me murders dozens of your family as I continue to refuse to give up my weapons. You receive reports that I still have the weapons and have even made more of them. You command me again to give up the guns, but I refuse. You command, I refuse. You then draw your weapon and make the command, then I claim I have no guns. You believe me because you are a friggin’ idiot.

He said their threat was imminent no matter what euphemism you want to use.

Prove this, Shep. You can’t because Bush never said this. But the fact is, as my example above demonstrates, the threat against us was quite real. The threat against our interests was quite imminent because Saddam continually refused to confirm what he agreed to confirm. It is remarkable that you and so many other leftists refuse to understand this. Politics means so much to you that you would despise Bush even if by doing so it implies your eagerness to endure the threats of a mad man. That is absurd!

They sold that story to the Congress and the nation and a few witless Coalition Members who were probably bribed.

Well, as my example shows, the threat was imminent, especially since we knew WMD were involved. After your family has been savaged once, you don’t just sit around waiting for it to happen again.

The Brits were sold by Tony. The rest of the world wasn't convinced and we now know why.

Please remember. The rest of the world didn’t have 3000 of its citizens murdered all at once. The rest of the world hadn’t incurred billions of dollars in stolen revenue and property all at once. The rest of the world had issued a direct resolution that it was unprepared to enforce. That is why the rest of the world wasn’t convinced. It didn’t want to be convinced. It never could have been convinced, despite the fact that it knew WMD were clearly once in Iraq and that Iraq had refused to confirm what the rest of the world commanded it confirm. It would have been best had the rest of the world simply kept its mouth shut and its worthless resolutions to itself. But it didn’t, and so the rest of the world doesn’t help your case because the rest of the world was acting irresponsibly.

But the question remains, why would Saddam destroy or ship his WMD out the country if he knew he was going to be invaded...he would have had them for that very reason, ie as a deterrent.

I do seriously marvel at these questions. It takes time to fully develop WMD and their means of deployment, especially if one wishes to deploy them against the United States and its interests. The report we received suggested that Saddam had plans to revive and further develop his extant capabilities. Given the beating he took in Gulf War I (and the sanctions following it), he may not have been able to move his program rapidly enough to put in place the systems required to make it effective. Bush stated that he wished to make sure that Saddam never would be able to develop such a program. So he commanded Saddam to verify disarmament. Saddam refused, and now we control Iraq. Quite reasonable.

He would have inflicted heavy casualties upon us if he had them and used them.

He likely had them but was still caught enough with his pants down that he could not deploy them. These are complex programs, Shep. Dear me…

What is meaningless is if we can't find them after insisting to this day that he has them.

He may have moved them. We absolutely know he had them. We know this with no doubt at all. Even you know this. It is just the result of pure stupidity to claim, with no evidence at all, that he no longer had them.
